Garage Doors in Troy, OntarioWorkshop doorsthat earn their keep.

Plenty of garages in Troy are workshops first and parking second. Dust, sawdust and frequent openings are hard on rollers and photo-eyes, so we fit sealed bearings, protect the sensors, and set the opener for the extra cycles, so the door keeps pace with whatever you are building inside. We also come out to Rockton and Sheffield.

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 61%Older homes

About 61% of homes in Hamilton were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

Wiring in an older garage may be a single outlet on the ceiling shared with the light, so a new opener is chosen with that in mind, and a battery backup covers the door during a power cut. The technician looks at the outlet before recommending a unit.

  • 56%

Single-detached houses make up about 56% of homes in Hamilton (2021 Census).

In areas mixing houses with townhouses and condos, a technician often works on several doors on one street, some owned outright and some looked after by management. Scheduling them together saves everyone time, and we are glad to plan a visit that covers the group.

Garage door services

Repairs and new doors

For homes and businesses in Troy we handle the full run of garage door work: broken springs and cables, doors that have left the track, openers and remotes that stopped answering, worn rollers and seals, tune-ups, and new doors chosen and installed to suit the building.

Repairs

Repair & Maintenance

Doors wear from the bottom up. The seal along the floor hardens, the lowest rollers pick up grit, and the bottom brackets take the salt.

Garage Door Tune-Up

On windy nights the door rattles in its frame, there is a line of daylight along one side, and the bottom seal has gone hard and flat. Leaves and fine snow drift in underneath and the garage never seems to hold its temperature.

Have your Troy garage door assessed at the house.

One fee whatever the hour, a price given in person after the door has been assessed, and a technician who explains what he sees: that is how we work in Troy. It applies to a stuck door on a Tuesday morning and to a planned new door for a renovated house alike.

How a visit goes

An opener is only half of the machine. The other half is the door: springs balanced so the door weighs almost nothing in your hand, rollers turning in a straight track, hinges holding the panels square.

Drawing: a house seen from the street. The van pulls up, the garage door is opened for the work, then it closes level and the porch light comes on.
  1. 1 of 3

    Booking made simple

One call sets the visit. We ask for the door type, the opener if you know it, and whether the door is currently stuck open or shut.

  2. 2 of 3

    A careful look

Every visit opens with a full check: balance, spring condition, cable wear, roller state, track alignment and sensor response.

  3. 3 of 3

    Clear choices, careful work

We lay out the options in plain terms, do what you choose with the right tools, and run the door until we are satisfied it is right.

Should I lubricate the tracks?

No. Tracks should be clean and dry. Rollers are meant to roll along the track on their own bearings, and a film of lubricant on the track collects grit, thickens in the cold and makes the rollers slide and drag instead. Wipe the tracks with a rag and put the lubricant where it belongs: on the hinge pins, the roller bearings, the spring coils and the bearing plates at the ends of the torsion shaft.

Does new weatherstrip make the door any quieter when it opens and closes?

A little, though it is not the main reason to do it. A fresh bottom seal cushions the door's contact with the floor, and snug side and top seals stop the panel rattling against loose or worn stops. Most of the noise people notice from a garage door comes from rollers, hinges and the opener chain or belt rather than the seals, so a technician checking the weatherstrip will usually point out those parts too if they are the louder culprit.

How many rollers does a garage door have?

A standard four-section residential door has ten: one at each end of the three hinge lines between sections, one in each of the two top fixtures and one in each bottom bracket. A five-section door carries twelve, and taller doors more still. The technician counts and inspects every one, because replacing the full set together keeps the door's travel and sound even from side to side.

What happens if the header wood or centre bracket is damaged?

The centre bracket anchors the spring's reaction force to the framing above the door, so it has to be solid. If the header has split or softened, or the lag bolts have pulled, the technician can refasten into sound wood, add a reinforcing plate or replace the bracket before the new spring is wound. Dealing with this first keeps the shaft level and the spring pulling straight, which protects the bearings and the door.

Will the lift cables be changed as well?

They are inspected every time and changed when they show fraying, rust at the bottom loop, or a kink from having jumped a pulley. Cables and springs are generally the same age, and with the door already open and the springs off, fitting new cables adds little to the visit. Bright, tight strands with clean loops can stay and are simply re-routed over the pulleys and set to the new springs.
